Add students and classes

Build your caseload and group students into classes for faster filtering and reports.

Everything in Datability hangs off a student: goals, data and reports. Start here.

Add a student

  1. Open the Students page.
  2. Click Add Student in the left sidebar.
  3. Enter a First Name and Last Name.
  4. Optionally pick a class from Select Class, or type a New Class Name to create one on the spot. You can always assign a class later.
  5. Save.

Privacy tip: Datability shows students as first name and last initial everywhere in the app, and a full last name isn’t required. If you enter only a last initial, that’s all we store.

Organize with classes

Classes group students any way that helps you: a resource room period, a speech group, a co-taught section.

  • Filter: pick a class from the Select class menu at the top of your student list to see only those students.
  • Change who’s in it: open Class settings → Edit Roster.
  • Remove a class: Class settings → Delete Class. This removes the grouping, not the students.

Archive instead of delete

When a student leaves your caseload, open the student’s action menu and choose Archive Student. Their data is kept and can be found again under archived students. Delete Student removes everything permanently.
